DE SOTO, Kan. – June 25, 2026 – The City of De Soto is partnering with Beale Infrastructure to deliver a major upgrade to the City’s water system, ensuring a safe, reliable water supply for residents for today and far into the future. As part of this partnership, Beale is investing approximately $10 million to replace the city’s aging Kansas River Crossing, a critical 80-year-old cast iron pipeline that delivers the majority of the City’s raw water supply. While this upgrade isn’t strictly needed for the project, which uses an air-cooled design, these projects improve water reliability for internal safety systems while improving overall flow rates for the residents of De Soto.

The water infrastructure upgrade project will result in the installation of a new 24-inch pipeline and expand the North Well Field – a modern, high-capacity system that will help protect and expand De Soto’s water supply for generations to come.

The existing Kansas River Crossing is a 16-inch main that delivers up to 4.5 million gallons of water per day from the city’s North Well Field. Currently, this crossing connects 60% to 75% of the City’s raw water capacity. Built over 80 years ago, this cast iron pipeline has been subject to significant river corrosion and is in questionable condition. It represents a single point of failure as its loss would cut the city off from a major portion of its water supply, posing immediate public health and financial risks to the city. The current well field cannot be expanded without upgrading the crossing.

From the outset of Beale’s partnership with De Soto, the city identified its aging water infrastructure as a key priority, independent of the low level of water that Beale’s data center is expected to require. To address this vulnerability and need, Beale is funding upgrades to the aging water supply pipeline with a new 24-inch pipeline, a second line that significantly increases capacity and reliability. In addition, a new well capable of producing 1.3 million gallons per day will be added to the North Well Field, bringing total well capacity to 5 million gallons per day with plans to expand further. Under the current infrastructure, this expansion is not possible.

“This project is about more than upgrading an aging pipeline,” said Christina Casler, Director of Water Infrastructure for Beale. “It’s about building the resilience and safeguards that De Soto needs to ensure a safe, reliable water supply for every resident, both today and into the future.”

Beale’s De Soto data center is designed to use a closed-loop, air-cooled system, which reduces water use. Once operational, the facility will only use approximately 15,000 to 20,000 gallons of water per day for domestic purposes, similar to a large commercial office building. This design choice, along with water infrastructure upgrades in the City of De Soto and Rural Water District #7, ensures  that De Soto residents will enjoy greater and more reliable water access. These improvements will add meaningful redundancy to the city’s water system, reducing the risk of supply disruptions and positioning the North Well Field to support the city’s long-term growth.
